SOCIAL
The aim of the project SOCIAL is to explore possibilities to facilitate spontaneous and informal communication in spatially distributed groups by exploiting smart environments and ambient intelligence. The project is a DFG-funded cooperation between the University of Bremen and the University of Oldenburg.

Transregional Collaborative Research Center Spatial Cognition
Spatial Cognition is concerned with the acquisition, organization, utilization and revision of knowledge about spatial environments, be it real or abstract, human or machine. Research issues range from the investigation of human spatial cognition to mobile robot navigation. The goal of the SFB/TR 8 is to investigate the cognitive foundations for human-centered spatial assistance systems.

SHARE-it: Supported Human Autonomy for Recovery and Enhancement of Cognitive and Motor Abilities Using Information Technologies
The goal of SHARE-it is to develop a scalable, adaptive system of add-ons to sensor and assistive technology so that they can be modularly integrated into an intelligent home environment to enhance the individual's autonomy. The system will be designed to inform and assist the user and his/her caregivers through monitoring and mobility help. Thus, we plan to contribute to the development of the next generation of assistive devices for older persons or people with disabilities so that they can be self-dependent as long as possible. We focus on add-ons to be compatible with existing technologies and to achieve an easier integration into existing systems. We also aim at adaptive systems as transparent, and consequently, easy to use to the person as possible. Scalability is meant to include or remove devices from the system in a simple, intuitive way. At Universität Bremen, the work in SHARE-it concentrates on the development of an adaptive biosensor-based cognitive assistance module and a cognitive performance model as a basis for interaction models tailored to individual users' requirements.

The CoSy group participates in the IQN [International Quality Network on Spatial Cognition]. The IQN website offers up-to-date news about events, publications and job opportunities in this international research network.
Spatial Cognition Priority Program
The spatial cognition priority program has been funded since 1996 by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). It comprises of 17 projects throughout Germany and brought together scientists from cognitively oriented subareas of Computer Science / Artificial Intelligence, Psychology, Linguistics, and Geography. Its aim is the interdisciplinary investigation of human knowledge and thought about space.
