Nearly every place in town tells you part of the 1000 year old historical tradition of Stade. In this picture, you see the foundations of an ancient monastery.

Stade is famous for its beautiful historic centre where you can find many beautifully restored houses from the 17th century. Moreover, the 350-year tradition of the Hanse left its trace.

In Stade county, nature has been left untouched by human influence in a number of places. The diverse landscape with its hills, meadows, rivers both large and small, forest and swamps offers different habitats for animals and plants that have become nearly extinct in other places. Of the storks, only a few hundred have survived in a few places throughout northern Germany, including Stade county.

The town hall of Jork, a small town in the Altes Land, which is the second largest fruit growing area of Germany. When the apple trees are in full bloom , the Altes Land is a landscape of outstanding natural beauty.

As Stade is situated near the North Sea, and in the vicinity of both rivers Elbe and Weser, sailing is not uncommon as a pastime. Stade itself is connected to Hamburg by a high-speed catamaran which makes the route between the two cities in less than an hour. We highly recommend making a tour on such a boat.

This is a typical farmhouse of the Altes Land region. During harvest time, you can buy fruits (apples, cherries, pears and plums) directly from the farmers.

The Schwedenspeicher (i.e. Swedish magazine), built more than three hundred years ago during the Swedish occupation in the thirty years war. For a long time, it was used as a storehouse for grain. Today, it houses a museum.
